“Our thinking is shaped by dualism. Entrance, exit. Black, white. Good, evil. Everything appears as opposite pairs. But that’s wrong.” – H.G. Tannhaus
Gestern und Heute (Past and Present)
Anfänge und Enden (Beginnings and Endings)
Vom Suchen und Finden (Lost and Found)
Enden und Anfänge (Endings and Beginnings)
Leben und Tod (Life and Death)
Licht und Schatten (Light and Shadow)
Adam und Eva (Adam and Eva)
(Triquetra)
Eine Reise durch die Zeit (A Journey Through Time) by H. G. Tannhaus
“A man lives three lives. The first one ends with the loss of naivety, the second, with the loss of innocence and the third… with the loss of life itself. It’s inevitable that we go through all three stages.”
(Adam’s World, Eva’s World, Original World);情慾上糾纏難解的三角關係(全劇最令人頭痛的部份);「潘洛斯三角」(Penrose triangle),這個被神秘組織Sic Mundus Creatus Est採用的無限三角符號符號,令原本難解的「∞」結更難解。
參考: 1) 間距33年的時空: Season 1 – 1953, 1986, 2019, 2052 Season 2 – 1921, 1954, 1987, 2053 Season 3 – 1888, 1921, 1954, 1987, 2053 2) 神秘數字「33」隱含時間旅行、預言、神蹟等意義(詳文按此) 3)「潘洛斯三角」(Penrose triangle) 為《Eine Reise durch die Zeit》(A Journey through time) 一書封面
“Sic Mundus Creatus Est”
Emerald Tablet tattoo
時間旅行者 (Die Zeitreisenden) 在Adam’s World稱為 “Sic Mundus Creatus Est”,在Eva’s World則稱為 “Erit Lux” (拉丁語解作 “There will be light.”
第三季第一集便以德國哲學家叔本華 (Arthur Schopenhauer) 的名言說明,我們並沒有所謂「自由意志」: “Man can do what he wills, but he cannot will what he wills.”
“We trust that time is linear. That it proceeds eternally, uniformly. Into infinity. But the distinction between past, present and future is nothing but an illusion.Yesterday, today and tomorrow are not consecutive, they are connected in a never-ending circle. Everything is connected.” – The Stranger
“Only when we’ve freed ourselves of emotion can we be truly free. Only when you’re willing to sacrifice what you hold dearest.” – Adam
“The mistake in all of our thinking is that we each believe ourselves to be an independent entity. While in reality, we’re all just fractions of an infinite whole.” – Eva
“I’ve already trod on dangerous ground; we’re on dangerous ground right now, because of our secrets and our lies. They’re practically what define us. When the truth offends, we… we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid. That is how an RBMK reactor core explodes: lies.”
“To be a scientist is to be naive. We are so focused on our search for the truth we fail to consider how few actually want us to find it. But it is always there whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not. The truth doesn’t care about our needs or wants; it doesn’t care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait for all time. And this at last is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of truth, I now only ask… what is the cost of lies?”
Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio: “It’s not easy to entrust oneself to God’s mercy. I know He has a very special capacity for forgetting our mistakes. God forgets, but I don’t.”
Pope Benedict: “All dictatorships take away our freedom to choose. We both know that. Or reveal our own weaknesses… It is our weakness that calls forth the grace of God. You show your weakness, He gives us strength.”
